Pennsylvania has played a pivotal role in America's energy security since we discovered oil in Pennsylvania. First with oil and now natural gas, Pennsylvania fuel helps meet U.S. energy demand and keeps our state economy forging ahead.
Pennsylvania is the nation's second biggest natural gas producing state. Our participation in the oil and natural gas industry directly and indirectly supports thousands of jobs, with average annual pay roughly $20,000 more than the average state salary. Oil and natural gas companies are also prime public revenue generators, paying heavy business taxes and more than $1 billion in impact fees since 2012.
Clean-burning natural gas is good for the environment, too. Gas produced in Pennsylvania has helped to lower carbon emissions from power plants and other facilities, a key reason why U.S. carbon emissions are at a 25-year low.
The natural gas industry benefits Pennsylvania in numerous ways. We must speak out against unfair proposed tax legislation and stifling regulations that would hinder this important sector of our state economy.
